Bree SHOULD have better stats. She’s pitched in better situations through the year. Mazz always has the toughest assignment. Bree has only started the past couple weeks. She hasn’t really faced a tough situation giving up runs after 5 or 6 innings. It’s easier to have good stats pitching 2-3 innings at a time. Bree has had longer games, but Mazz has never came in a finished anyone off. She stays until they hit her. We’ve typically not had a pitcher able to go 7 innings with modern hitting, but Mazz has done it repeatedly. Bree did it today. That’s great. Right now, we are stuck trying to win with two pitchers. Which means both have to pitch a game and go the distance. Then one can relieve the other in the third game. That’s a tough spot to be in for Pete, regardless of who he starts on a Friday. He can’t pull a pitcher on Friday or Saturday, or he has to show them his second starter. Even when he doesn’t, they’ve seen Mazz and Bree 7 innings each and will face both again tomorrow. To me, Mazz this season has been the best pitcher since Rochard. Not sure I’d take her out of that Friday Sunday spot. She’s used to that pressure, and Bree has been slowly easing in to starting. Pete knows what he’s doing and must see Bree mentally wasn’t ready, where as Mazz has been starting for 3 years.
