Right. As I stated, "great pitchers are most often recruited rather . .

. . . than developed". The problem is you never know who's going to be 'great' until they are. HS and even TB performance is only a rough indicator of D1 performance. Said another way pitching 'greatness' is likely pretty much a fixed quality by the time a player is 16 or 17 years old. However, revealing that 'greatness' can only occur in the D1 crucible. Given that belief, the best investment of every NIL dollar a program has is to buy a pitcher with proven D1 success from the portal. ** Edited by MidloHokie at 3/14/2026, 11:47:26 AM
