Have some thoughts on that.

Run rule is fine, maybe take it to 10. Game over, winner declared, but the starters stay on the bench and the "others" take the field and their place in the lineup. All stats, hitting, pitching, fielding, generated count as real stats except the runs because the winner of the game has been declared. This gives more players the opportunity to play and gives the fans more ball to watch. Making the stats "real" give the players something to strive for, runs scored could be counted as stats but not be part of the game score. Maybe put an * on any stat generated in these "overtime" innings. If conferences didn't adopt this, maybe invitational tournaments could.
