Honestly hard to really tell

You may be right, but I think there are some advantages given to teams with higher RPIs such as better seeds and playing at home. What if those teams had to go on the road? Would they still win? Granted VT's home record was a bit baffling this year, but it's a big advantage when hosting a region and super, so one could argue that those higher RPI teams are winning b/c they're at home. My biggest issue with the RPI is that many times teams can't control who they play and it punishes you for winning games. Now, I'd need to do a full analysis (which I'm too lazy to do), but the RPI has proven time and time again at least in basketball to be a BS metric. There are better ones our there as you mentioned.
