Because it's too early...

It's basically sacrificing the potential for a big inning to attempt to score a single run - and it's too early to tell if it's going to be a high scoring or low scoring game. You also have Bre at bat, and the odds are just as likely she'll knock in a run. It's a good strategy if it's late innings in a low scoring game, and/or the batter at the plate is not one of your better hitters. Bottom line - I think the right strategy was to let Bre swing away, forcing Bama to get outs via our bats as opposed to the base running.
