Why is White House Commitee leaning towards 24 team playoff
Which Conference AD's think this a good idea?

Why would anyone care about a WH Committee on the CFP?
Any suggestions should be met with a "we'll take that under consideration" and laugh it off behind closed doors.

IMHO, 🦊 B1G wants to kill 🐭SEC’s attempt to create a break away P1 Conf
of course run by 🐭SEC. IMHO the B1G wants to keep the Academic model, while the SEC wants more of a Professional NFL like model. IMHO if they go to 24 team playoff, the P1 NFL like model will likely die, and 🦊B1G knows it. However, never underestimate the 🐭SEC, they have so much power in College Football tier 1.

I never looked at it from that angle, and
must admit, it kinda makes sense. I would add however, the SEC wants what is best for the SEC schools, nothing else. The BIG schools want the same thing, but they want to appear magnanimous, and are looking out for the better good.

USC and Michigan not signing GOR for a reason, they are P1 candidates IMHO
and 🦊B1G knows it. Like the ACC or the B12, if a couple leave the B1G, many will try to follow so they aren’t left out, but as we know many probably won’t be invited. ** Edited by Stech at 4/22/2026, 7:58:32 PM

Private equity was front and center for their refusal
to sign on the dotted line. Neither University needs that money, but several mid an lower BIG schools are not doing so well with their budgets. BTW, PE is coming whether we agree/like it or not.

Agree it’s coming but they think they can get a bigger one from P1, so GOR
wasn’t signed IMHO because they want more if the P1 happens sooner rather than later. The old saying, “follow the money.”

I'm not sold on the P1 idea, but know it's a possibility.

I don’t want it and I don’t know if it’s happening, but listen to Saban on
Gameday he talks about it incessantly. TV shows plan almost everything, especially the things they repeat on shows.

indeed
This is a Fox led thing to not let Disney have a monopoly on the CFP. Of course in a non-banana republic country the Executive Branch wouldnt be taking sides. But at least we have Nick Saban and Urban Myers dialed in on the committee to play it straight and do what's best for all :-) Amazing isnt it....I thought they were supposed to fix NIL and the Portal. ** Edited by Vippie1 at 4/22/2026, 4:44:04 PM

Everyone is at 9 conference games now in P4
So they should now all roughly on the same page for the future. 24 teams means that each P4 is guaranteed at least 3 teams per year and maybe as many as 8 teams. G6 will get maybe 2 guaranteed and have the option for more if they have some highly ranked teams. So everyone wins with 24 teams. But how they execute 24 can be done in different ways. And some of those options are better than others.

To me the best part of a "24 bracket" is that 16 teams get a playoff game
in their home stadium. RD1: top eight seeds get a bye. Middle eight are at home vs bottom eight. RD2: top eight seeds are at home vs RD1 winners. Finish with neutral sites.

100%, and 24 spots means that 32 teams
can get in the playoffs on the last game of the regular season assuming the 8 byes are locked in. Personally, I'm all in for a 24 team playoff - can't wait.

Even if the final product ends up being 20 bids for the P2s, 2 bids for the
ACC and Big XII, 1 bid for the G6s, and 1 bid for Notre Dame (automatic bid even if they go 0-13 during the regular season)?

you are saying that you think
the ACC and B12 will be like the MAC and CUSA? I don't see it that way. The P2 has the media money advantage, and I'm not sure there is anything that can be done about that. Other schools will be able to compete, even with the money disparity. The KC Royals are a small market team, and can not possibly compete with the Dodgers and Yankee's year after year - so they have a 5 year plan in which they develop talent and compete every 5 years, as they can come up with the money to compete every 5 years or so. The top rich blue bloods can compete every single year with their money - even if you took out the media dollars. Looking at the B12 and most of the ACC, they can acquire the players and go on a run in the range of ever 5 years or so. We are just not going to be able to compete with the tOSU's, ND's, and Texas's year after year. So ya, when the planets line up, and VT has the team, but happened to lose to 2 playoff teams on the road? They will get their shot with 24 teams, but not with 12. I'll ignore the ND comment.

I am saying that even in the expanded playoffs that there is no guarantee
the ACC and/or Big XII will be treated as "equals" with the Big Ten and SEC for various reasons. Even if the P4s all receive the same guaranteed playoff bids (i.e. 4) and the remaining are considered "At-large bids," I don't think much will change in terms of what percentage of the at-large bids go to the P2 conferences vs. the ACC or Big XII. So in that regards the ACC and/or Big XII could be perceived as being more like G6s than the P2s. Maybe a better way of looking at it is the ACC and/or Big XII may be viewed in the same light as the Big East Football Conference was viewed towards the end of the BCS Era. Plus, technically the P2s are now "running" the College Football Playoffs now, so the ACC and Big XII doesn't have as loud of a voice as they once did. WRT Notre Dame, I have seen a potential proposal where Notre Dame would get an automatic bid in a 24-team playoff regardless of its regular season record. Most people agree that Notre Dame is good for ratings. Also, it wouldn't be any different than how teams with a losing record make the field for March Madness simply because they won their conference tournament. At least that was the justification used when the question came up on what happened to Notre Dame's bid if it had a losing record. The P2s may not be opposed to the idea because it would open the door for them to get even more teams into the field since they can basically now decide what rules the College Football Playoffs will follow now.

OK, so living in Kansas, K-State, like VT, had some
pretty good teams in the "90's and 2000's, yet they never really had a realistic chance as a National championship. VT and K-State game within one game of achieving that goal, or at least an opportunity to get there, but they both had seasons that would have put them in the playoffs multiple years if the playoff existed as they do today. The point, is that never once has K-State or VT (add 90% of the schools) been included in the "club" of blue bloods. Nor, could either school compare with the revenue that a Texas or ND could produce - yet on the field, they could win ballgames. NIL and players getting paid has certainly given the "rich" schools an advantage, but really, is it that much different than it was in the past? The price of admission has certainly gone up, but it does not prevent schools from buying players to compete. There are still only so many players to go around, and if you are a player that commands money, are you going to wait your turn on the bench at Alabama or Texas? Not when you have a chance to start at VT for a couple of years. ND is an outlier, there is only one, and if they happen to remain at the top and get more playoff invites than our respective schools, so be it. Not a darn thing we can do about it. As long as our respective schools have a legit pathway to the playoffs, which they currently do, then settle it on the field.

The list of schools in the "club" or not in the "club" has not really
changed too much over the years. What has changed though, and what you may not be factoring in because the data isn't available to the public, is the amount of gambling activity associated with each conference now that betting on college sports is legal in most/all states. Remember the networks are affiliated with at least 1 gambling company/app, so they have access to that information. It is entirely possible the conferences do too since that could be a discussion point when determining the value of the next media contract. Baltimore Hokie suggests in a post below that the P2s may decide to reduce its membership at some point in the future. While that seems perfectly logical under most business models/plans, the business model/plan factoring in gambling activity may be where it doesn't make good business cents/sense. I say that because the more members you have, then the potential to generate more gambling activity associated with the conference. If the P2s aren't done growing yet, then eventually they will want to add the cream of the crop from the ACC and/or Big XII which will only widen the gap between the 2 groups. For schools like K-State, VT, and maybe even Kansas, the best the can hope for is they able to ride this train for as long as they can before the train arrives at the last station. IIWII and why fans, whose team is not a member of the club, probably shouldn't get their hopes up that their odds of making the field will improve greatly just because the field expanded. In the end, nothing may change for them because the rich want to keep on getting richer and the networks want to continue increasing their odds of showing playoff games between 2 club members. Hence why I suggested earlier that Kansas, who is basketball royalty, may find itself without a membership in the club because that is no longer enough to let them through the door anymore. Especially if the gambling activity for Kansas athletics doesn't support it.

Devil's in the details. What even does a 24-team playoff mean?
Do all G6 champs get in? Are they getting rid of conference championship games? If so, why are there byes? Who is going to pick the 24? Will there be caps on numbers of teams per conference. Can't Truss It

which we are in anything but. that committee is a means to an end and the end is A) crony capitalism for friends and B) don't laugh but someone (I wont say his or her name ) would like to be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in Canton for his or her contributions in "saving" college athletics. Agreed. The President is merely the manager of the Executive Branch
He doesn't have the legal power and authority to rule by decree. EO's only affect Executive departments of the Federal government. A President can't "fix" anything in sports at all without Congressional legislation.

My conversation was strictly about the structure of the government and executive power overreach. Every HS junior knows the structure of government and how laws are passed and enforced. The fact that you observed the obvious disconnect between the WH committee and basic civics and assumed a political opinion is on you.
