The list of schools in the "club" or not in the "club" has not really
changed too much over the years. What has changed though, and what you may not be factoring in because the data isn't available to the public, is the amount of gambling activity associated with each conference now that betting on college sports is legal in most/all states. Remember the networks are affiliated with at least 1 gambling company/app, so they have access to that information. It is entirely possible the conferences do too since that could be a discussion point when determining the value of the next media contract.
Baltimore Hokie suggests in a post below that the P2s may decide to reduce its membership at some point in the future. While that seems perfectly logical under most business models/plans, the business model/plan factoring in gambling activity may be where it doesn't make good business cents/sense. I say that because the more members you have, then the potential to generate more gambling activity associated with the conference. If the P2s aren't done growing yet, then eventually they will want to add the cream of the crop from the ACC and/or Big XII which will only widen the gap between the 2 groups.
For schools like K-State, VT, and maybe even Kansas, the best the can hope for is they able to ride this train for as long as they can before the train arrives at the last station. IIWII and why fans, whose team is not a member of the club, probably shouldn't get their hopes up that their odds of making the field will improve greatly just because the field expanded. In the end, nothing may change for them because the rich want to keep on getting richer and the networks want to continue increasing their odds of showing playoff games between 2 club members. Hence why I suggested earlier that Kansas, who is basketball royalty, may find itself without a membership in the club because that is no longer enough to let them through the door anymore. Especially if the gambling activity for Kansas athletics doesn't support it.
