ND/TD nailed Y MOU 4 ND, B1G/SEC needed UNANIMOUS CONSENT. N th future NOPE
Yes the B1G and SEC and all the others went with this, but for very different reasons. The other conferences voted for it because the B1G and SEC said we will leave and do our own playoff if you don't vote to give us 60% control. All you need to win control is 51% of the organization or company, those two have 60%. So nobody wimped out, they just knew that the B1G and SEC where holding the winning cards. So they voted for it. Didn't want to, but having P2 do their own playoff was worse., at least right now because ACC/B12 (after they are invaded) and now G6 are not ready to do their own playoff.
Now to the ND MOU that if ranked 12 they are in, even if a school like Miami beat them and was ranked 10 (like this year), they had no problem giving ND the guarantee they were in CFP, even if they knocked out a better ranked team in their conference. Why? Because they know when that happens there will be outrage and they can change it with their 60% control. That or they will change it before then, because they have the power to change it. So no problem ND, you will get it for a while, until we decide to change it.
Don't skate to the puck, skate to where the puck is going.

...Their only value is football and if they don't want to be a full member, what value do they bring to the ACC? They are a midwestern/B1G school anyway, nothing in common culturally w/the ACC. Exposure, in the Midwest? At least SMU, Cal and Stanford expand the footprint. $MU in particular gives the ACC exposure to Texas football talent. Cal and Stanford fit the academic profile of the ACC.

No fees owed to the ACC at all that way.

It is not a big deal financially. The amount a conference can make is small compared to the rights agreements. The impact on the perception and fanbases of the schools is small. Does anyone really think that OSU not advancing has any impact on how much money they will make next year?
This is all just a bunch of dick waving. It shows that the leadership of these conferences have way too much free time in their hands.

If an ACC or Big 12 school ranked #11 or even #10 gets booted because of the G6 and ND rule, will the P2 care or will they simply just care for their own? I almost wonder if the P2 would like to see this happen to power schools outside their conferences in case it causes more discontent and dysfunction in the ACC and Big 12.

the ACC, and possibly the B12 too. In the meantime, we also know that the B1G wants ND, and more recently with the B1G winning three straight National Championships with 3 different schools (unlike the SEC getting 6 from Saban/Bama), the SEC likely doesn't want the B1G to have ND. Not to mention that we all know deep down the B1G doesn't want ND to get the special treatment they get over the B1G schools. Yes they did vote for the 12 and in rule for ND, but that rule is by no means a long term rule now that they have the power.

..the B1G will ever give, "special treatment" to ND. For one, Michigan, Purdue and USC are historical rivals already. They can still play Navy and BC and another historical rival on a rotating basis. Indiana (30x since 1898), NW (Parseghian came from NW) and OSU are natural rivals and of course MSU (67x) which they had historic game in 1966. How much more exposure do they need? .I say dump them unless they agree to be "all in" w/the ACC. At the end of the day, CF is about rivalries and who are ND's? Not the ACC.

ND doesn't want to join a conference in full and the very last place it wants to end up is as a full Big Ten member.
That is ND's worst case scenario regarding conference realignment. A fate it does not want at all.
ND has been fighting mightily against that fate since 1990.

Let's say writing on the wall shows 2 big conferences about to happen. Would ND knowing they have to join a league start one themselves? Let's face it the Irish would desire something they control.

Conference realignment played a big role in that.
ND is looking to start new ones.

is kicked out of the ACC, the ACC implodes, don't you?
If ND joins either the Big 10 or the SEC, VT will be scrambling for a landing spot, because if ND leaves, Miami, UNC, FSU, and Clemson will leave as well.
Get over ND's special status guys. I understand why you guys are bitter, but your association with ND is your best chance of survival as the conference you know today.

I am ready for the next iteration, whatever that might be.
None of us joined the ACC to play games in Palo Alto, Berkeley or Dallas. Or, for that matter, Boston or Syracuse.

not like the PAC imploding, but they did. If the ACC falls apart, and there are only 3 power conferences, so the hell what? Losing the ACC, AND ND's independent vote will be the kill shot of college football as we have all known it.
College football is on a respirator for now, but it is not dead. I hope we spend the next few decades arguing on which conference is better, the B12, or the ACC. Currently, you guys win the argument, but lose ND, and ANY one else?
That independent vote, which apparently is valued as much as a conference vote, is dearly needed moving forward.
Take out your frustrations on ND on the field. Miami beat them head to head - how about other programs up their game, and start beating them as well.

than the ACC. The ACC eats their own and no one can ever have anything nice. And ACC fans generally suck outside of FSU, Clemson, NC State and Virginia Tech (sometimes Louisville will have fans). Nothing says big time football like Duke at Wake Forest or BC at Stanford. If Alabama or Georgia joined the ACC (I know that would never happen btw), those 2 would dominate the ACC for a decade like Tech did when we first joined. But after a decade, Bama and UGa would get ACC’d and start having 6 to 8 win seasons like the rest of us. We can’t have anything nice.

are programs that do not deserve to be in the ACC, they deserve more. VT football is one of them, and for the life of me, I will never understand this loyality to the ACC from some fans. Maybe it's an accademic or pride kind of thing, but I assure you, it's not a football kind of thing.
Maybe, one day, they will call the B12 the lunch pail conference instead of the truck stop conference.

and the SECis still reluctant to grow but the Big 10 wants to steal UNC and UVa to start the next wave of conference destruction, that would be a 36 team super league with a bunch of pissed off Big 12 and ACC schools. Maybe then some of the Big 12 and ACC could band together to form their own 20 team league with 5 divisions.
Division 1: Zona, ASU, Utah, BYU and Colorado
Division 2: Texas Tech, Ok State, K State, KU and ISU
Division 3: Pitt, WVU, Louisville, Syracuse and Miami
Division 4: FSU, GT, Clemson, NCSU and VT

when they leave is what they want, as TerryD just posted earlier today. I predicted it when they did their disingenuous outrage over an ACC intern posting full time Miami deserved to be in the playoff instead of 2-3 🏈 games that the ACC gets to televise with Notre Dame. The selection committee is not making their decision on a Social Media post, that was for Jim ND Phillips to act like he wasn’t in bed with Notre Dame.
If you follow TerryD’s post, you can track what Notre Dame wants.
1) Leave the ACC with no penalties!!!
2) Break up the B1G, they still can’t turn the other cheek for something that happened over 100 years ago, and repeated invitations from the B1G
3) Join the Super League (P1) that will allow schools to have their own TV deals for the regular season, but still label it over and over and over again as being independent, even though it happens because the P1 is just a Super Conference.
Hey now that Virginia Tech has decided to invest near the top of the P2 level, and Penn State’s AD, did his best Daniel Snyder impression, Virginia Tech has a chance to be included. However, I don’t like the disingenuous way that Notre Dame is going about it. Notre Dame is better than that.

It was my reaction to that irrational and nonsensical idea. ND isn't looking to go anywhere.

ACC needs a strong vibrant independent ND, as does college football.

I was against it at the start, mostly because it cheapens the conference brand. The upside was that maybe if ND took a test drive, they might join down the road. But now that ND has shown their cards and their true colors, it is clear they aren't joining.
But all of this is water under the bridge. Getting rid of ND doesn't really do much positive for the ACC at this time. The reputation hit to the ACC for inviting them in the first place, along with working around ND's ways is already baked in.

ND told the world ad nauseum that football would never join a conference.
IF Swofford lied to ACC presidents or if the latter were duped by their own baseless hopes, that is not ND's fault.
As far as a test drive, ND took that in 2020 and didn't like it. It beat feet back to independence as soon as it could.

A one year safe harbor didn't obligate ND to a life sentence in a football conference.
The ACC said "Try full membership, you will like it!!"
ND said okay, tried it, did not like it at all and returned to football independence.
The end.

ND isn't going anywhere absent conference Armageddon, in which case everyone is scrambling except for those already dead. It is always funny to listen to the Big 12 troll lecture others about being bitter. Nothing screams bitter more than someone constantly hanging out on a rival conference message board trying to stir the pot.

If we had that rule this year, ND would have been ranked above Miami. Perception problem solved. They and ND don't want to flack that would come from actually invoking that rule.

voting. Unlike the P2 having 60% of the rules that they make. I also have strong doubts that the B1G will support ND Isolationism favoritism in the long run for very good reasons/history.
