OK, help me out here. I'm on the road, and going
to football stadiums on my bucket list. Was at the Marshall game last Saturday - and boy, do they know how to tailgate. Had tickets to the Navy game in Annapolis, but both of my brothers who served bailed. Will try next year on that one. So I'm in Atlantic City - Never been, and will not return, but the tables have been friendly. Then I looked at the FBS schedule, and thought I'd pick up Lane, then WVU on Saturday as a consolation. Ummmm, Not a problem getting tickets, but what is up with the hotel situation???????????? I'll try you guys next year, but may have to get that RV I've been looking at. The RV was for the West as I'm in Kanas, but the Atlantic Coast?? .... Conference????? Got family in Charlotte, so the East Coast stadiums will always in play, but doing the Lane thing apparently will take more planning than the ADHD spur of the moment thing. I'd like to see a game in Blacksburg, and I certainly understand the small college town thing, but damn, even on an off year is tough. May have to wait until you are in the B12..................................:) ** Edited by Big12 guy at 10/21/2025, 9:59:00 PM

Not this trip, but dang, that was a good game. I
would like to go to a Miami game, and experience Lane in all it's glory. That will take a bit of planning, but I'm willing to spend the money to make it happen. This year, I'm chasing my tail because I just rolled off of my responsibilities this month, and am now free to travel. My sister is an avid IU fan, and while we are getting ahead of ourselves, we are looking at Rose Bowl packages.

Most Hokies drive 4-5 hours to a game from NoVa and Hampton Roads, need a 2
night stay at double the normal price to be in Blacksburg or drive another 1/2 to 1 hour to get to a hotel. The sacrifice is unprecedented, and I have many Penn State friends (which is remote too) and they are often just a couple of hours away to get to a game. Whether it is Philly, Pittsburgh or NYC. When I tell them our travel distance even they are impressed. PS It's also why we pack games in the DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia area, because less than 3 hours is nothing for us, and we can get one night stays without a problem.

Lane at night will be fun (and cold). Try to go if you can
I echo others. Just get a spot outside of Blacksburg and it’s not too hard to get there and will save you from the cost hikes. Parking for a weekday night game might be a little more hassle than a Saturday game but just be prepared and you’ll be good. Enjoy the road trip.

What am I missing?
I see lots of options for hotels this Friday that are under $200

A lot of people will get a room in Roanoke or Salem
About 45 minutes away normally, 2ish hours depending on gameday traffic, so it is pretty easy to get to and from the game.

I've been going to VT games since I was a freshman in 1973, and...
...finding a hotel in Blacksburg on game weekends has been an issue for at least that long. You basically have to make your reservations as soon as the schedule comes out. And, as pointed out, some require a 2 night minimum. Not to mention they all jack up their prices to predatory levels. If the drive to Roanoke doesn't work for you, try searching Christiansburg. The towns are adjacent and it's only a 15 minute drive or a relatively inexpensive Uber ride.

Hotels in the area usually require 2 night minimums.
Roanoke area hotels might be your best bet. It’s only about 35/40 miles away. Or look in the Bluefield area which is about an hour away.

Thanks, but I wouldn't want to drive on a Friday night after
a game, I have my reasons for that :). Two nights is cool, and preferred. Just might have to plan better?
