A test, can you correctly place which schools had which viewership?
This is showing the total regular season viewership for the ACC and the B12. This is both conference games and OOC games. It does not include conference championship games, bowls, or playoff games.
So can you guess where teams fall on this chart?
Note: this is for 2015-2019 seasons so Texas and OU were still in the B12.
Note 2: there is no data for the ACCN, BTN, SECN. So this data is showing the various ESPN channels, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS numbers that are known.

make sense to me. Counting the ones still in your conference does make sense to me.
PS The more relevant conversation might be by individual school instead of by conference, since we now know that only some of the ACC and B12 schools were on the two Smash Capital calls without their conference commissioners. My educated guess is that the ones with the higher ratings were on the call. Smash Capital probably only wants those to fund a potential new conference. To them it will be about getting the higher ratings schools.

not defend KU's football attendance, and viewership, they have made remarkable strides in the last 3 years, will play in a new stadium next year, and if they can keep their coach, they will compete for B12 championships. They apparently got the message when basketball wasn't enough to get a BIG invite (they were vetted by the BIG).

was considering this year against Miami, but will be on the West Coast this season. Toledo plays in Pullman, and Indiana plays in Eugene. (long story, but I plan to attend those games, and start on my bucket list.

work my way down the coast. Harvard, Army, WVU, VT, Virginia. Maybe Marshall, maybe East Carolina, Clemson, and FSU. I've been to BC, the NC schools and USCe. The first 4, and the last two are the bucket list schools - Marshall because of my history with Toledo, and East Carolina just because.

to attend 1 game at the 1,000+ (might be closer to 3,000) colleges (NCAA, NAIA, JUCO, Comm. College) that sponsor college football.
The reason I picked those stadiums had more to do with the setting/scenery than the actual stadium itself. Attending a game at Lane in late October or November when the leaves are changing colors provides a slightly different setting (maybe even vibe) than attending a game in late August or early September. Historically night games have been more electric than day games at Lane and a "must" on any person's bucket list. However, there is something "special" about attending a day game at Lane with the leaves changing colors as the backdrop. Maybe it is because the colors on the trees mirror VT's colors. Maybe it is because for a brief moment the view makes a person believe they have found a slice of heaven on Earth. It isn't that uncommon for people to hear me refer to Blacksburg and the surrounding area as "God's country" in a conversation.

and the excuse to visit parts of the country that one would normally not venture. Who would visit College station just because as an example? Or State College, PA? There is a week between games, and lots of America to see.

probably people who enjoy the outdoors/nature given where State College is located within the Commonwealth. A person probably could say that Centre County (where State College is located) is geographically similar to Montgomery County (where Blacksburg is located).
Now you are probably right about College Station because I don't think there is much to do there and/or not as many people find that part of Texas appealing enough to visit.

my list. Being in upstate NY, whatever the reason, put's you in a art of the country that most don't even know exists.
App State is another, but one only has so much time and resources. My wife has zero interest in my passion for the mountains or college football. I have about a 5 year window until she catches up with me on the "retirement" thing, so WTH, every Fall I will go to a college game every week staring next year. Not the bowls, as I've seem my share of them, but the home stadiums, the home fans, the traditions, the food, and the atmosphere. Some I will probably have to attend by myself, but I'm pretty determined when I set my mind to something.

and also trying to understand what it is that various people are looking for. An example, my interpretation of what you want to see is below.
ACC and B12 teams vs any team that is currently in the P2 (so it would include OU and Texas as part of the P2).
You can see in the first chart that the B12 teams were fairly equal in the number of games they had on tv vs P2 teams. But in the second chart, you can see the difference in the viewers. The ACC numbers are lower because the ACCN started in 2019 and so they have fewer games in my tv data.

The real point is that the current Big 12 teams won't have much opportunity to play Texas and Oklahoma to boost their TV ratings, while the current ACC teams still regularly play Clemson and Florida State (and ND time to time).

conference media numbers in 2023, accounting for before the moves, and after the moves. This is by conference, and doesn't break the teams out, but you can come to your own conclusions.

The chart you linked is for "total minutes of viewing", which is very different from the usual data of "number of viewers" or "ratings".
Also, I have no way to validate the accuracy of their data because it is not standard. I know companies like this can get access to data that normal people don't get. But I've never found BTN, SECN, ACCN data so maybe they have some additional data sources.
I will give them credit for only including regular season data and not the bowls or playoffs. But their data goes to 12/9/2023 which includes the conference championship games. So those games definitely help boost the P2 numbers even more.

I have layers of data. Over 7000 rows and 25 columns of data for these 5 seasons.
At this point it’s filtering through the various combinations to see which comparisons are useful and which are just noise.
