UTEP is also expected to join the Mountain West later today as well
Texas State to join too? Sorry I didn't see this posted below. ** Edited by Millpoint at 10/1/2024, 11:25:25 AM

With UTEP to the MWC, I'm guessing Texas State to the PAC, their hesitation
in accepting the MWC bid, makes me guess that.

Good assumption
Both conferences would love to be in Texas.

Yeah announcing an invitation without accepting an invitation sounds like
you really want something else. Texas State has a large student population is close to San Antonio and Austin, that probably makes the PAC want them more than UTEP. which is in a more remote area.

Memphis basketball is raising their eyebrows.

Does that open up a football only addition? Will UConn football
finally find a home? Too far East? Interesting times for sure.

I think UCONN decided to wait for the ACC, since it's obvious at least 2
will leave, if not more. They would end up back with some of the original Big East schools that they would love to play again in all sports. This is just a guess though, but it explains why they were so close and then things fell apart with the B12.

I don't think going to the PAC takes any school out of the
running to be included in the ACC or the B12. UConn especially, as they do not really have a pathway to the playoffs, nor the playoff money. Even the G5(6) gets some of that money. If the ACC falters, and they FINALLY consider inviting UConn, it will happen. Unless the B12 takes them first. ** Edited by Big12 guy at 10/1/2024, 11:37:31 AM

Take it for what it's worth
But Greg Flugaur reported last night that things are looking more favorable for UConn to possibly get enough support to get a Big 12 bid later this year or next. Apparently a previous no vote school in Texas has now flipped to yes and there are other factors that is making it more favorable for UConn. I guess we'll see. I'm glad Gonzaga found a landing spot and it was not in the Big 12. ** Edited by Millpoint at 10/1/2024, 11:41:49 AM

Gonzaga never made sense in the B12. When their coach retires, it
will be difficult to maintain their success. Being in the PAC will help them.

Interesting, I thought th B12 was over for UConn, but they are close to WVU
and Cincy. Of course we all know they have great basketball.

Close to WVU and Cincy? Emotionally or Geographically?
S
Stech
Mostly geographical compared to other B12 schools, there is some emotional
with WVU and UCONN having history with the Big East basketball.

Yormark covets the NY market.

UConn isn't in the NY DMA. They are in the Hartford DMA.
To get the NY DMA would need St. Johns, Seton Hall, etc. The Hartford DMA is next to it, and Connecticut is close, but it's like us with Syracuse. Rutgers was the one actually in the NY DMA, but without much following in New York.
B

I don't think it the NY market in the traditional network
definition. I think it's more exposure, recruiting, and yes, it's possible to pick up some basketball schools if Yormark is successful in separating the football and basketball media contracts. It's the branding of the B12.

Interesting, always thought a Conference would get them being close 2 ESPN
Headquarters. I think I once heard that a lot employees at ESPN graduated from UCONN.

I think the PAC will grab Texas State, but that is just a guess.

I was thinking Hawaii at Manoa
They could join for Football only. They will now be closer to the PAC12 than the MWC. And I was thinking that the MWC should invite one of the Montana, North Dakota, or South Dakota schools to move up and join. There are some good FCS football options out of those. ** Edited by HOO86 at 10/1/2024, 10:58:59 AM
