I'd take UConn, Temple, and perhaps UMass to do what they would be trying to do with the adds of Villanova and St. Johns. Even if they have to do a graduated revenue plan where they have to build up to full revenue share over 7 years or something. We watched that setup with basketball only schools in a league with football in the Big East. I don't think that worked very well. The American has Wichita State, but I can't speak with how that is working with a fish out of water like that.

One sport conference additions have never worked in the long run. The football only additions to the MAC are long gone. Wichita State is considering coming back into football, and Creighton should consider the same. It's more then fine to have Universities that focus only on basketball, but to include them in football centric conferences is a tough row to hoe. UMass, UConn, and even Temple have the potential to have relevant football programs - they just need to decide that it's important for the future of their athletic programs. So far, they really haven't.

Gonzaga has been in talks with the Big12, but there was an official statement that they are on a shelf until the PAC situation works out. Have not heard anything about the Big East schools. Currently, as everyone knows, there is a consolidation of the brands and blue bloods in football, as that gives those conferences leverage in these insane media deals. Insane, because of the differences in amounts between the haves and have nots. Once the football consolidation is over, the next money pie will be in basketball. Will there be a different round of conference realignment with those schools? I think one would have their head in the sand to not see it coming. When did the Big12 become such a powerhouse in basketball? I think many on this board remember that it was the Big east and ACC that dominated, followed by the Big10. You had the UCLA's Kentucky's, and Kansas types that competed, and won, but Basketball has been an East Coast centric sport in the past. We don't know how the ACC will evolve in the football consolidation, but not being forward looking has cost all of the P3 conferences dearly. An ACC Big East conference in basketball could dominate the sport again, and may be the future for the schools not invited to the football media contract party.

What you may have is just the old Big East conference fight between the football schools versus the small private basketball schools playing out on a larger stage among conferences rather than within a single conference.

If it increases revenue for ACC schools. But in general, adding one sport schools, or non-football schools will only lead to issues. If the Big XII goes this way, look for them to add football from UConn, Temple, Villanova, or whoever they add for basketball. Its not a recipe for security, it is a stop-gap. For the BE, they started as basketball conference and added Football later to lure in new schools with strong football programs, so that is different and shouldn't be a model.

Fox is currently negotiating a renewal of The Big East media deal (exp. 2025.) So they know what the valuable properties are in NYC and Philadelphia. BE currently at $4.6 million per school, expected to rise to ~$6 - $8 mil. If these three + Zags join The XII The BE will be badly damaged. Fox loves their BE Championship Tournament in MSG, but this move would get them MSG all season long. They would pay much less for the remaining BE or walk away altogether. It might also allow UConn to bring their hockey to The B1G. West Virginia would welcome new neighbors. There was much speculation as to why Fox settled for so little to allow TX/OK to depart early. This move may have been an undisclosed part of the deal. Note: Villanova FB is in The Colonial and UConn FB is indy. Curious coincidence: The Big EAST has a media deal with Flosports (Austin, TX) for 600 conference events including one featured hoops game per week. The deal was renewed in 2022 for three years only (exp. 2025.) Why only three years? Did somebody know something?

And they are rumors coming out of WVU area so take that for what it's worth. Commissioner Brett Yormack has apparently been approached by TBS to bid on Big XII Basketball Only for starting 2030 or so, or when the Big XII renews again after this current deal with ESPN/Fox they are entering in 2025. The reason is that TBS believes that they will not be able to outbid NBC for their portion of the NBA. ESPN will get the other portion ESPN has now. ESPN is planning to pay what they need to pay to keep their half of the NBA. TBS wants basketball, so they are pushing the Big XII to set up some super nationwide college basketball conference to backfill the NBA on TNT. Yormack has been shopping this idea with some of the Big East members and Gonzaga. I have to hand it to Yormack. He's trying everything to get the Big XII more revenue. I don't know why the PAC12 didn't try to at least get a game per week on TBS.

time conference contracts are negotiated. If they are, then we will get a clear and concise picture of what football and basketball are worth. I've always though the Big12 was at a real disadvantage by not having their own network, but they may actually get more exposure with a separate basketball contract. Currently, I have to fish for games I want to watch because FSN is always loaded up with Big East schools. Glad I get the conference networks, as I'm always in for a competitive game.

And I don't know if that means women's basketball too. But again this is rumors only that I'm seeing from people who claim to have sources, but I can't tell if they actually do.

Seems like a win-win. It would make a lot of us cord-cutters really happy.

I know that they show a lot of Big XII basketball on ESPN+, and Oklahoma wasn't part of it. Don't know how much. The NBA contracts end in 2025. TBS is looking for more basketball after the NBA. Yormack is trying to wheel and deal.
