I don’t believe that there is a satisfactory linear TV deal to be had at
this point. It’s like waiting for a train to come that you have already missed and don’t realize it. Plus some PAC 12 Presidents aren’t willing to sign a GOR that involves mostly streaming content like an offer from Apple. This has made George Kliavkoff’s job extremely difficult if not impossible.
It has now been almost a year since the PAC 12 started negotiating a new TV contract and they have been unsuccessful to date. I have no idea what circumstances would have to change in a month or 6 months or even a year that would all of sudden make the linear networks want PAC 12 content and be willing to pay for it at a level that keeps the conference together.
With respect to the ACC, I don’t believe that the “magnificent seven” were meeting in secrecy behind the commissioner’s back for negotiating leverage on the subject of uneven conference revenue distribution. They were meeting on the subject of getting out of the GOR which is holdings the conference together and keeping some schools from pursuing financially better options. What I would be interested in is knowing who was the Judas among Judases who exposed the magnificent seven right before the Annual Spring Meeting? My guess (based on almost nothing) is that it was North Carolina State.
The news keeps getting worse for the PAC 12. This show out of Utah was one of the biggest PAC 12 homer shows out there, but not any more.
