Ok, here is some insane speculation from a comment at the Athletic

I cut and pasted it...could be a fun parlor game guessing who this cat is talking about... "Temple made an ACC push, the presentation slides stressed plans for a new on-campus stadium. I know one of the associate AD's who was there at the time. It died on the vine when the stadium project dissolved over lack of institutional and neighborhood support but it was explained to me that the ACC basically scoffed at it anyway. The head AD is the same AD who's now at Penn State. There is absolutely MASSIVE pieces moving behind the scenes re: conference alignment. My jaw dropped when (s)he named the school that's about to make the first move. Let's just say the extra money these mega conferences are only worth it to a few people at each school b/c having new schools 3,000 mi away doesn't create any extra work for them. But it creates a lot of work for everyone else... and the ROI for the schools funding it is NOT creating enough juice to make it worth the squeeze. And as I'm told, it's not just the travel/lodging. It's having to actually hire more employees and contractors. It's the logistics. It's student-athletes complaining. Schools are leaving more and more athletes home from all these long road trips which is just fine with them b/c they don't think they should have to go 2,000 mi to sit on the bench. A lot of employees (operations, marketing) are working 80 hour weeks and getting paid for 40. And now they have to pay all the players on top of it. The bubble is going to pop soon and one very big institution is going to lead it. If I named the school, everyone would claim it's BS and it makes no sense. But when it happens and Feldman or whoever outlines why it makes sense, the comments will be filled with the same know-it-alls saying "Well of course it makes sense, duh!" so I'll just keep it close to the vest. But I'm kinda shocked it hasn't leaked yet." ** Edited by mancunian at 12/17/2025, 11:18:32 AM

Disagree, Christiansburg High School could get into the ACC

Two schools within 20 min of each other? Yeah that checks for the ACC **

...but would go 15 years without playing each other.
