Can the ACC secure three AQs?

The ACC is clearly pushing back and trying to secure more than two AQs, though Phillips didn’t provide specifics. A 16-team playoff would give the ACC a better chance to get three spots compared to a 14-team playoff. (I still believe the P2 conferences want their champions to receive byes, so the 16-team playoff will likely include byes for two teams.) Obviously, the P2 have more leverage and do not want to give the ACC additional spot. In my opinion, one possible compromise from the P2 could be to offer three AQs for the ACC and ND. In other words, if ND doesn’t qualify for the playoff, that spot would go to a third ACC team. While both the ACC and Big 12 are pushing back, I haven’t seen reports indicating direct discussions between the ACC and Big 12 offices. In fact, I doubt the ACC cares whether the Big 12 secures a third AQ. The ACC is top-heavy, so it’s possible that the ACC gets more AQ than the B12. This doesn’t fit the media narrative, so it’s not discussed much, but don’t be surprised if the ACC gets a better deal than the Big 12. (If I recall correctly, Dellenger mentioned that a 4-4-3-2-1 model is also under consideration.)

Will the at-large teams be chosen BEFORE the play-in games?

Don't we already get slightly more money than the B12 from the playoffs?
Truthahn 05/19/25 01:24 PM ET
Yes, the ACC receives marginally more than the Big 12 schools.
RandomAsianGuy 05/19/25 06:00 PM ET
It is interesting that ND could get mixed in with the ACC playoff teams.
Truthahn 05/19/25 10:34 AM ET
Just leverage an existing platform. If ND is ranked in the top 16, then in.

No thanks

Maybe, if they are just outside of the rankings, they could be

I think I actually agree with you.

Would Notre Dame agree to an ACC play-in if they are not an at large?
Sunsetunderground 05/19/25 10:58 AM ET
It seems to me that the P2 wanting 4 teams in is so they can have play-ins.
Truthahn 05/19/25 01:33 PM ET
I definitely see that for the SEC and B1G with 4 each but
Sunsetunderground 05/19/25 02:52 PM ET
I see the compromise as 3-3-2-2-1, with the balance being at large
Big12 guy 05/19/25 03:01 PM ET
I sure hope not **

I feel like if play-ins become a "thing" ND may face opposition

Obsession much? The ACC's problems are not because of the B12. Nor
