Made it back from the Bay Area just in time to deal with Milton As my posting handle states, I used to live in the Atlanta area and moved to the Sarasota, Florida area last year, which I love. Unfortunately, a big old storm is coming and looks to be making a direct hit on us sometime tomorrow night. Following our arrival back to FL late on Sunday night after the trip to SF, hurricane preps began. I have everything almost completely shuttered with only one more slider that will be sealed up tomorrow morning. I have attached what the shutters look like for the slider window next to the one that remains open. Everything that could possibly move or become a projectile outside has been brought inside and I sadly had to bring down my outside TV. If anyone can help me put that thing back up when this thing is over, I will gladly accept the help. We have decided to ride out the storm and not evacuate. With every window shuttered, it feels like we are living in a cave, which is "interesting". I would rather deal with the shutters than have a palm tree come crashing through a window tomorrow night. As for the trip to the Bay Area. We spent Wednesday - Friday in Napa Valley and really enjoyed some beautiful scenery, wine, and food. We drove back the Bay Area on Saturday morning and got a little lost in Palo Alto trying to find parking but all worked well. Due to getting lost and a 12:30 local game time (following almost 2 hours of driving from Napa), we were shocked to walk into Gott's Roadside on El Camino Royale at 11AM with virtually no line. Beer for me, wine for Mrs. Cobb County, fish tacos for both which were surprisingly really, really good, and we were ready for business. Then a short, very hot walk to the stadium and we were ready. I live in Florida and know what hot weather feels like, but the heat on Saturday felt much like Vegas or Arizona heat, and it was stifling. We quickly realized that our VT ticket office seats in the full sun were a no-go just after the first play of the game and we moved over to the other side of the stadium shaded by the press box, which made all of the difference in the world. I was really impressed with the Stanford campus, and Palo Alto, which are both gorgeous and I thought the stadium was pretty interesting and with a good atmosphere would be a pretty fun place to see a game. Of course, the Stanford fans were nowhere to be found and the atmosphere was horrible. A win is a win and if that is my only complaint from the weekend, I will take it. When we play Cal in Berkeley in 2026, count me in for the road trip. If there is an ACC in 2 years and Tech and Cal are both in it, I plan to make the trip out west again. ** Edited by CobbCountyHokie at 10/9/2024, 9:03:28 AM
