On Notre Dame πŸ€.

A few random thoughts on Notre Dame: 1) Swarbrick can put his money where his mouth is and save the Cardinal and Cal Bears right now. Just join the ACC. In fact, they could probably save them just by giving the ACC a 6th game, but I digress. 2) You guys know, especially the ND posters on here, that I am not one to push for the Irish to give up its independence. I have pretty much been opposed to the partial membership from the start. And in a way, I think the way the situation is now, those who supported the move in the first place perhaps have buyer's remorse. So y'all know where I have stood on this. 3) Number 2 being said, I would love it for the Irish to join us right now. They can save Stanford, UC Berkeley. Perhaps Duke, Boston College, and other high-end academic private schools in the end. Heck, they can even bring in Tulane and Rice for all I care. 4) While doing this, they can prevent the P2 from further consolidating power by coming for big names FSU, Clemson, and UNC. ND would be the unquestionable leader of this conference. I'm not sure they would be as influential in the B1G or SEC. 5. While not an ND fan (truth be told, I was a Southern Cal fan as a kid until I became a Hokie), I always had a healthy respect for their school, program, and traditions. I understand their love for independence. But I never saw it as even one of the greatest traditions in the sport, or even the top tradition at Notre Dame. 6. Lastly, most people are resigned to the fact that if ND gives up independence, that they will simply join the Big Ten. I even saw the clip on Get Up this morning with Greeny interviewing Heather Dinich (both Big Ten alums *cough cough*), and they were both shilling for ND to back up their words about saving Cal and Stanford and join, not the ACC, but, wait for it....the Big Ten. Anyway, all of college football would rejoice if ND would back up their decades of resisting the Big Ten and stick it to them one final and conclusive time. If they do the opposite, it will be sad, and make the years of anti-Big Ten talk look cheap in retrospect. Anyway, c'mon Notre Dame, now is the time. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 8/11/2023, 3:05:35 AM

We should hold firm on slightly more than the 6th game.

Agree on your first three points, especially #3

Hard pass. I don't want to do anything more for ND. Done with the favors

When you say "we should hold firm" on a 6th game, it that the fans

I haven't followed the negotiations.

If this is about saving the CA teams, I agree with you, the ACC
Big12 guy β€’ 08/11/23 11:47 AM ET
ND’s whole play in this is self serving…

The AAC would give ND the same deal as the ACC, maybe the Big12 would too**

Notre Dame is looking to keep the ACC alive after it's top football

The end game for ND is to be in the group we now call

I don’t know why Notre Dame has any interest in saving Cal or Stanford.
HolidayInnHokie β€’ 08/10/23 11:39 PM ET
ND wants to save independence, not Stanford or Cal
TerryD β€’ 08/11/23 05:37 AM ET
Well said. Notre dame is acting to protect its independence
Hokie1992 β€’ 08/11/23 06:50 AM ET
That’s fine, but it needs to be a win-win, add them, but ND needs 6th game,
Stech β€’ 08/11/23 07:18 AM ET
We are a partner that has boundaries. A 6th game would be lame
goldendomer β€’ 08/11/23 07:58 AM ET
The only thing that is ridiculous is this response to 1 game, especially
Stech β€’ 08/11/23 09:52 AM ET
Six games is nowhere near independent. Heck, 5 games isn't either
goldendomer β€’ 08/11/23 10:18 AM ET
What if it stayed 5 ACC games, but Cal & Stan don't count towards the 5?**
SpeakToDamien β€’ 08/11/23 10:55 AM ET
If we do not HAVE to play them it is fine
goldendomer β€’ 08/11/23 11:18 AM ET
You'd still be indy where it counts. Keeping all the NBC money to yourself.**
tarheelblue β€’ 08/11/23 10:49 AM ET
You are already semi independent in football, this is one game and USC has

There is not a football school in the nation that would walk away from

Independence is the kiss of death for all but a few.
Big12 guy β€’ 08/11/23 10:58 AM ET
They will want to play them, but I think you are underestimating how much
Stech β€’ 08/11/23 11:15 AM ET
I think what is missing is that ND needed a home for their basketball and
Big12 guy β€’ 08/11/23 08:13 AM ET
For that amount of difference, I think they want someone who they are
132863Hokie β€’ 08/11/23 08:44 AM ET
It takes as many votes to expel teams as it does to add them.
tarheelblue β€’ 08/11/23 01:00 AM ET
Even if ND joined for football, I doubt it would save the ACC in the end.
tarheelblue β€’ 08/10/23 11:12 PM ET
That’s right ND 🏈 would not be that much of an increase, especially playin
Stech β€’ 08/11/23 07:06 AM ET
Agree - the future of the ACC won't (and frankly shouldn't) be determined
VPI_1998 β€’ 08/11/23 04:39 AM ET
It would be close enough**
SpeakToDamien β€’ 08/11/23 03:36 AM ET
ND in the ACC would easily be close enough to the B10.
