Utah/Arizona Buyers Remorse?

If Stanford and Cal are brought into the ACC, will Utah/Arizona have buyers remorse after committing to the Big12? On paper, ACC is currently in 3rd place for annual payouts and given the 2036 GOR the perception is that the ACC is stable through at least that date. (FSU begrudgingly has acknowledged this) The Big12 is hot right now but given it's spot in 4th place for payouts as well as the "catch-all conference" even with a TV rights renegotiation, they will still be open to poaching by bigger fish (SEC/BIG10) before the ACC. Academic prestige (Grants), ACC takes the cake, so again I wonder if Stanford/Cal are admitted, will Zona and Utah have buyer's remorse? Could they potentially jump ship on Big12 to form a West Coast pod. ** Edited by VtotheT at 8/8/2023, 10:16:16 AM

They'll probably have to wait until 2031 or so

ACC is 3rd in total conference payout, but 4th per school payout.

Those numbers for PAC12 and Big12 are for the expiring contract.
HOO86 08/08/23 12:32 PM ET
note that those numbers are pre-OUTexit; ACC will be solid 3rd afterwards**

The new TV contract actually increases for the Big 12 after UT & OU leave.
WBGV 08/08/23 12:18 PM ET
Is the Big12 Renegotiating a new TV Contract post Pac12 pick-ups?
VtotheT 08/08/23 01:09 PM ET
No need.....
2hhoop3 08/08/23 01:39 PM ET
Pro rata was negotiated into the contract, so the new schools
Big12 guy 08/08/23 01:28 PM ET
Thanks- good to know. I wasn't an authority on BIG12 contract negotiations
VtotheT 08/08/23 02:01 PM ET
The real numbers.......
2hhoop3 08/08/23 12:48 PM ET
simply. not. true.**
ren_hoek 08/08/23 12:22 PM ET
Might not be what you want to hear, but it is true.**
WBGV 08/08/23 12:26 PM ET
Actually, it is true. The new contract pays media money per school
Big12 guy 08/08/23 12:25 PM ET
Link?**
hokieZ71 08/08/23 12:54 PM ET
Keep in mind, these are "reported numbers. **
Big12 guy 08/08/23 01:05 PM ET
So, we are relatively tied, with postseason money being the kicker.
hokieZ71 08/08/23 02:16 PM ET
I think give or take, that is our future. **
Big12 guy 08/08/23 02:33 PM ET
Probably, but those numbers include postseason disbursements. It's
Big12 guy 08/08/23 12:00 PM ET
It all depends on the payout from the ACCN.**
WBGV 08/08/23 12:19 PM ET
It's an advantage the ACC has, for sure. **
Big12 guy 08/08/23 12:22 PM ET
that's, um, a pretty huge note. Big12 should be a clear 4th without UT & OU**
neworleanshoo 08/08/23 12:00 PM ET
Should, could, and are will be determined. **
Big12 guy 08/08/23 12:22 PM ET
I don’t think so - Utah / BYU as well as Arizona / ASU
Hokie12thman 08/08/23 11:08 AM ET
ASU to the Big 12 is terrible
ScottsdaleHokie 08/08/23 02:19 PM ET
Yes, I concur, but we got em good or bad. **
Big12 guy 08/08/23 02:35 PM ET
I'm sure UA and the others explored coming to the ACC en masse.
Maroon Baboon 08/08/23 11:07 AM ET
Similar situation to WVU going to Big 12 before ACC took Louisville.
Old Line Hokie 08/08/23 11:05 AM ET
The ACC should have taken all 3 then. Take WVU and UCONN with Louisville.

Another way of looking at this

Utah and Arizona will be just fine
obguthr 08/08/23 10:59 AM ET
doubtful at best. I think the Big XII looks pretty good with the add-ons.**
reestuart 08/08/23 10:46 AM ET
Agreed
Pylons 08/08/23 11:05 AM ET
Conference membership means nothing for research grants
