We will find out in 2030 what happens to the contracts of the BIG and

B12, a little later for the SEC. Those contracts will set the table for any future realignment, and whether or not there are two, three, or four power conferences. Obviously the P2 gets the eyeballs, have most of the brands, and more importantly, the competitive advantage with recruiting and the ability to pay players. I don't think that discounts those that are not in the P2, and there will other schools that will be able to compete with the top brands of the P2, regardless of which conference they are in. There is definitely value in the media content of those that are not in the P2, they will just never get the same exposure or the same dollars as the P2. SMU has flexed their muscle, as has BYU. To be included in the "club" however, would take decades of consistently being ranked in the top 10, and that just isn't in the cards in my opinion. That does not preclude them from winning a natty down the road. VT can also go on a run with the right coach, the right recruits, and ya, the right amount of money. No differently than small market baseball clubs. The P2 will beat up on each other, and the losses for current and former blue bloods will start to add up. Uneven distributions will implode, as it hasn't worked for any conference that has implemented them. Maybe the ACC will be different, and set precedent. A hybrid 3rd conference looks good on paper, just like the mag 7 did. So does a hybrid 1sr conference with a combination of the SEC and BIG. It's conceptual, but will probably never come to fruition. The top schools need the schools on their schedule to rack up the wins, fill their stadiums, and retain/add rivalries. A pro model for college football is destined to fail, as there is entirely too much regionality, and I don't see that going away. It's no different than the fans of VT wanting regional and traditional foes, rather than considering the B12. I say that, not thinking that the B12 is a stronger conference, I say that because schools in the B12 feel the same way. CalFord had no choice in the matter, and for a VT as an example joining the B12 it would be for the same reasons. (not a prediction).
