What you are missing

WVU is the only game in the state. Yes as much disdain as I have for their fans, they are passionate. But WVU is the only real major university and the only game in town for most, of the state. So most, but not all of those fans would have still been game crazy even if WVU was in the MAC. As I stated, VT has already been in that situation when we went through the wilderness of the Metro, the A10, half in the BE then all in the BE until finally in the ACC. I have seen it before. We were not the only game in town, we were in what our home area considered an inferior no body cares about conference. It hurt us and it took Mike Vick to made much of a difference. We were facing something like 6 teams in close proximity (relatively) all in the "favored" conference. That matters. We were at a disadvantage. There was a whole other layer of people who became VT fans once we were in the favored conference. Heck we could drive to UVA and all 4 North Carolina schools and back in a day and at least 2 of those schools (Wake and Duke) implemented higher prices for tickets and concession because they knew they were going to be besieged by VT fans. Lose that and going back to being in a conference that our home area (DMV, VA and NC) does not care one bit about except WVU and yes there will be slippage. But that is not just a VT thing. Same for NCSU if they end up in the XII. In fact I am going to go so far as to say that if FSU and Clemson go Big 10 then they also will be in what their home area sees an a inferior conference. Their area's heart belongs to the SEC.

Can someone remind me; are we rooting for FSU & Clemson to blow up the ACC?
UpstateSCHokie 04/06/24 12:59 PM ET
Opinions? 1 Is the ACC contract as bad as the leaks suggest?
TDVick 04/08/24 03:08 PM ET
do we know for sure that is not a standard component of more ESPN contracts
VTCALS72 04/12/24 08:47 AM ET
2. By what scenario could the university representatives and ACC mgt, NOT
TDVick 04/08/24 03:25 PM ET
I don't think this deal was a horrible as you want to make it.
VTCALS72 04/12/24 08:54 AM ET
The ACC must fully die in order for schools like VT to move
HokieAl 04/07/24 10:02 PM ET
I hope FSU loses badly in court and off the court as well **
OrlandoHokie 04/06/24 09:29 PM ET
I kind of just want to get it over with.**
Air-Ic 04/06/24 07:06 PM ET
Don't be hasty
MrBayAreaHokie 04/07/24 08:59 PM ET
I probably disagree with most on this.

Yep. Go Noles. So much damage and impairment seems to have been done that
TDVick 04/08/24 03:31 PM ET
Almost every eventuality with no ACC is bad for VT
SpeakToDamien 04/06/24 11:33 PM ET
Wait. Now I like the ACC, but
Big12 guy 04/07/24 11:53 AM ET
Going to court was not the right thing to do though
Marooned 04/06/24 09:47 PM ET
I'm not sure what leverage they had to negotiate an early exit.
Maroon Baboon 04/07/24 01:04 AM ET
Let me give you my honest answer inside…
Stech 04/06/24 05:34 PM ET
Especially FSU promoting ever negative thing they can
VTCALS72 04/06/24 04:42 PM ET
Hokie fans absolutely need to hope the ACC survives
SpeakToDamien 04/06/24 03:17 PM ET
I tend to agree with this because
Vippie1 04/07/24 10:09 AM ET
The P2 may not be sustainable
obguthr 04/07/24 01:40 PM ET
Dunno. I just think the whole thing is a lose-lose for college sports fans.
Maroon Baboon 04/06/24 01:24 PM ET
A lot of questions about the 70/80 team Super League...
Old Line Hokie 04/06/24 03:45 PM ET
Personally, I believe VT benefits from stability in the ACC**
VT ChemE 1986 04/06/24 01:01 PM ET
But stability means FSU and Clemson staying in the ACC?**
UpstateSCHokie 04/06/24 01:03 PM ET
Not really.
VPI 1924 04/06/24 04:33 PM ET
Them leaving is not a huge problem as long as the remainder
VT ChemE 1986 04/06/24 01:09 PM ET
Losing your top two brands isn't a problem? Especially come television
LonghornHokie 04/06/24 01:13 PM ET
It sure isn’t ideal, but the alternative may be worse
VT ChemE 1986 04/06/24 01:16 PM ET
The alternative being the conference completely breaks apart &VT doesnt get
UpstateSCHokie 04/06/24 01:21 PM ET
I am not, the XII does nothing for either east or west coast teams.
VTCALS72 04/06/24 04:51 PM ET
Everything depends on the ACC contract
Big12 guy 04/06/24 01:36 PM ET
But will enough people care?
VTCALS72 04/06/24 04:58 PM ET
There is some truth to that comment,

VTCALS72 04/06/24 09:09 PM ET
The B12 stopped being regional
Big12 guy 04/06/24 09:33 PM ET
If VT, Pitt, NC State, and Louisville joined the B12
GALOISGROUP 04/07/24 11:54 AM ET
We just disagree
VTCALS72 04/07/24 12:15 PM ET
If ND maybe
GALOISGROUP 04/07/24 02:14 PM ET
Sure, if only 3 teams leave the ACC then pick em
