The only reason and I mean ONLY reason the Big East gave VT full membership

when it did is because JW leveraged the possibility of leaving the Big East Football Conference for the SEC into recommitting to the BEFC in exchange for reduced full membership in the Big East. All of this went down around '97 or '98 when I was a full time student at VT.
