When conferences went beyond round robin play, they kinda lost me.

I would prefer independence to the conglomerates we have now. I used to think the Pac-10 was the perfect football conference. Round robin play. and everyone had a rival. Plenty of quality. Then, they added Utah and Colorado. Which would be fine, if they played 11 conference games. WRT ND's independence, they have had the luxury to chose history. Most other schools couldn't do that even if they wanted to. No way an average program can put together a quality schedule that would qualify it for the CFP if undefeated. There are two things I reject or at least don't fully relate to. 1) People wanting to "force" Notre Dame to join a conference. And 2) Notre Dame's near iron-clad aversion to joining a conference. WRT #2, I get the desire for a national schedule. But I think this would best be done by creating a conference in its own image rather than expanding a tone of capital hoping that the system accommodates its independence.
