The Pac12 has some inherent issues that caused its lack of success lately. Primary reason being that people out west just aren't all that passionate about college athletics. Been that way for decades, yet the Pac12 schools have been receiving bigger payouts the last decade or so than the ACC. Despite all the ACC's obvious advantages. Facts. The BigEast was an upstart inferior football conference to begin with. Fact. Heck, the BigEast was the perfect platform for VT, WVU, Miami, etc. for a very long while despite that. Yes Tranghese made major mistakes, but he wasn't working with a lot to begin with. Swofford took the premier league down a horrible path. Consider this, the ACC's bowl tie in pays out $27 million while the B1G, Pac12, SEC and even the ten member Big12's pays out $40 million. That's a cool million bucks a year those schools have to play with. What a horrible negotiation that must have been. And even worst, Swofford's work is the gift that keeps on giving because ACC schools are now relatively stuck. USC/UCLA are accepting their spot right now into the top tier of college athletics with more Pac12 schools to come. The ACC schools are still having to figure out how much it's gonna cost them to do so because of the most poorly negotiated sports television contract in recent history.
