Not meant that way. I went to a lot of schools that had a better counter-

part in the county, state, conference, or whatever. But at each stop, I enjoyed myself, made friends, and built my résumé. My kids and family members can’t tell the same story. VT was one of those stops. But by almost every metric, UVA (and W&M for that matter) are better on aggregate. GPA, class rank, SAT/ACT scores, ranking services, AAU status, grant funding, you name it. It’s OK to acknowledge that, but also that you value the place and the time you spent there, whether it be for your own academic journey, the friends you made, or what followed. I know what you mean about some of these ranking services. I don’t love them either, because they often overemphasize soft metrics such as reputation and diversity. But out of curiosity, I’d love to see what ranking system you can find that shows us as overall better.
