You're not wrong, but the ACC hired a middling sports admin

and that's what they got. Nothing in his resume suggests he'd know how to run an entertainment-related organization and that's not the job he signed-up for. So IMO the fault lies with the ACC for not recognizing the type of person that was needed at this moment. Its a general lack of situational awareness, which is been a hallmark of ACC leadership since before VT joined.
