Should be 14. A 16 team tourney makes the SEC and B1G CGs a day of rest.

It would be for seeding only, which is of little concern. Could see 14 being a better number with 2 byes to conference champions. Maybe they should get rid of the CGs, but they won't, cuz greed. But with additions to the B1G and the SEC, their championship games are actually far more interesting and important.
