I think we need to define what the package deal really means

My personal opinion, I don’t think VT/UVA or UNC/NCSU need to stay together if one moves conferences. I think the key is that both teams are taken care of in a secure position that will not impact the local economy. So for me, VT and UVA could end up in different conferences and be just fine as long as they still play each year and both are in a P4/P5 level. UVA could remain in the ACC (minus a few teams). VT could follow several different paths. And both could be happy and comfortable with their result. For me the package deal just means that nobody gets dumped by the side of the road like Washington St or Oregon St. ** Edited by HokieAl at 7/29/2026, 8:45:58 AM

What if we have been thinking expansion too much? I have a theory

Apparently, the anti expansion clause in PCSA is not a major sticking point
RandomAsianGuy 07/29/26 12:36 PM ET
That’s because it is not that strict. See my response above**

I agree that the little p2 does not have to have 14-20 teams.

The key may be related to local economies, but

I think the VA pressure back in ACC expansion was unique
HokieAl 07/29/26 11:30 AM ET
And had they not gotten involved we likely are in the SEC already**

And if the politicians wouldn't stand in the way, there's no package deal

In reality Virginia has 2 flagship schools
VTCALS72 07/30/26 07:36 AM ET
Well, I'd say in reality there can really be only one flagship
