the problem isn't athletics is the over board of Nebraska

The Board of Trustees and president do not have the same vision for the university than the other Big 10 presidents. This includes R&D and large 'land grant universities. Big 10 schools hare huge enterprises. Nebraska board of trustees are elected, and have elected to micromanage both athletics and the university. They have fumbled on hiring a replacement president of over 14-16 months, after the old president moved on to Ohio state. The AD walked out to A&M over trustees micro managing his program. Thats not how a big 10 school should operate. The new guy at Ohio State (recent Nebraska president), gave his comments back to his peers/ friends at University of Nebraska, after serving at ohio state; Nebraska needs frankly get their act together, or they will be left behind. being left out of meetings, no shared R&D. etc etc. For their athetlic dept, they have to find new revenue streams, the model of nebraska fans saving $$$ and supporting the local teams, and NIL in rural Nebraska is tough.. and frankly doesnt sit well with the Nebraska core. But bottomline its shaken alot of long term Nebraska fans, who dream of the long term tenure of Tom Osborne.
