I look at it as "half-empty." After seeing how Oregon got slow-played and

the pro-rata numbers are so big - especially since the SEC added Texas and OU, that in-state "solidarity" won't help that much. When you look at UNC, UVa, NCSU and VT, it seems to me that the only one of the four that's is accretive versus the existing payouts without additions is UNC. UVA looks like they are next on the list due to 1) their academics for B10 or 2) preferred partner of UNC, assuming UNC could make a non-political choice. If all four get invited, it will be at a significant haircut to new conference peers. So basically UNC (or UVA somewhat) are going to have to cross-subsidize VT and NCSU. Maybe that will happen. You are correct to point out that, "at some level of payout reduction" this can work. My guess is that the reduction will be quite nasty, though. That which UNC adds, seems be more than reduced by the other three. I guess the question is "how much?," and "how committed are the VA and NC pols?" It seems that there is more of a state-specific, geographical element to the B10 model, so it seems that if UVA goes there, it might make sense for the SEC to grab VT to check the B10. But yes, at some level of discount the haircut model should work. It just seems the both the in-state schools are worth more being split apart - assuming VT and NCSU can land somewhere.

My guess is that UNC and UVa will be allowed to go to the B10, but not SEC
