98th meridian

80% of the US population lives east of it, only 20% to the west of it. It runs pretty much runs through Austin, TX. The map below shows how spread out the schools in the west are, and how easily schools in the east were able to create conferences. This map is all of the D1 schools, not just football schools. In the map, you can see the 98th meridian and the huge drop off in the number of schools. BTW, the 98th meridian is pretty much the dividing line between areas with water and the areas with limited water.
