I still see a 24 school B1G with four 6-team divisions. Adding Stanford (SanFran) and Arizona St (newly AAU/Phoenix) really makes a ton of sense to get that Pacific division done right. Stanford has billions in athletic endowment. Suffering through a few seasons of having to replace the Pac12’s former payout of around $30-$35M at the added expense of several million more in travel fees isn’t that big of a deal. Stanford’s goal is to remain competitive with all sports until the B1G calls. Some schools spend $200M on new stadiums or sports centers. Stanford will spend $200M on funding their athletic viability over the next few years. The Mag7’s goal is being able to get out when it’s time to get out. Guess what, Stanford is also. Cal isn’t, so that could have been the hang up for UNC/NCST. The Mag7 gets an 8th member. (Don’t think UNC’s president isn’t getting Stanford’s president on board with the Mag7 before it votes them in.) And the ACC schools will all add a few million to their coffers for the next few years. FSU will fight it because it won’t be what they asked for but the rest of the league won’t care.
