How I remember this

SEC was looking for a partner for the Aggies. There was internet speculation that the SEC came to Morgantown to check things out. Apparently the football and basketball facilities were ok but there was a real issue with Olympic sports facilities especially baseball. Hawley Field was nothing more than a high school facility. Baseball has always been huge in the SEC. Anyway, Mizzou was the better choice because of market, AAU and facilities. Basically WVU took Mizzou's spot in the Big 12. Since then WVU and Monongalia County have invested in a state of the art college baseball facility that did host a regional a few years ago. Also, have always heard we finished runner up to South Carolina when SEC expanded in the early 90's. No idea if either of these are factual. Virginia Tech will be a good candidate for the SEC if future expansion occurs and UVa ends up in the B1G.

West Virginia claims they had a contract from SEC when Texas A&M was 2 join

Not sure, but VT had that spot until they VERY publicly turned it down. **

When you say “West Virginia claims”, who exactly was making this claim?**

West Virginia in SEC?

There was a vocal group of ACC apologists on this board.
BBBDatVT 07/28/22 05:00 PM ET
I totally agree with you
WarHog38 07/28/22 05:26 PM ET
It didn't have anything to do with FSU. But UVa.
Maroon Baboon 07/27/22 11:51 PM ET
Will not argue with that being the overriding sentiment

It's all good. There was and still is a kinship with football first schools

If the ACC had taken UConn instead of Louisville, FSU and Clemson were

Yes. Totally forgot about the UL angle to this. I'm not sure how close

I remember that like it was yesterday.

VT to SEC at that point was a nonstarter due to in-state UVa connections
Maroon Baboon 07/27/22 10:00 PM ET
I seem to remember the ACC was ready to fall apart at that time and that
ChrisLords 07/28/22 12:37 PM ET
I agree. The only reason VT would have been taken by the SEC is because
