Even if VT couldn't or didn't want to join when the SEC was founded, there may have been another opportunity when Sewanee decided to leave the conference in 1940 because it reduced the membership from 13 to 12. Heck there may have been opportunities between 1932 to 1940 where someone else could have joined to increase the membership to 14. My point is there is no reason to have a beef with a school, who made a decision a long time ago, just because it ends up being the "right decision." It makes even less sense if VT had similar opportunities around that time and made different decisions for various reasons.
