Unless it gives them the ability to secure a media
deal closer to the SEC, I do not see the point. $500M is not much money these days with billion dollar media deals.
Sure, there are schools that need a capital infusion, but they can go out and get their own PE deal. Currently, it appears that teams can opt in, or opt out of about $30M per year, for the next 3 years. ISU, and a few others absolutely need that kind of infusion if they are to remain competitive.
That is just a band aid however, and does not address the long term need of those schools. At least VT got a cash infusion without prostituting their future.
There are some fans (trolls for the hoop guy) that are talking about paying exit fees for some ACC schools as the negotiations ramp up for the next media deal. That is not substantiated in any official form, but if I was in charge, it's what I would do.
