Absolutely NOT!

I went to the University of Richmond vs. Fordham game this past Saturday. UR is historically one of the top programs in FCS. They aren't having such a great year this fall at 4-4 (one of those losses was to FBS UNC), but it's certainly not disastrous. UR's stadium seats just under 9,000 and they had ~maybe~ 1,200 in the stadium. The student section was EMPTY. Literally zero. No energy, no halftime entertainment, no band, nothing. Saw maybe a handful of folks tailgaiting. If we did what you are suggesting in your post above, this is the kind of thing you could expect. NOBODY wants that. Amazing to think that back in the 70s' and early 80's VT and UR were on fairly equal footing. I have NO desire to be back on their level again. ** Edited by Culpeper Hokie at 11/4/2025, 3:25:35 PM ** Edited by Culpeper Hokie at 11/4/2025, 3:57:50 PM ** Edited by Culpeper Hokie at 11/5/2025, 1:26:07 PM

Just a thought, what if VT football wasn't caught up in the "arms race"

I'm clearly in the minority, but yes - I'd start attending again.**
MP4VT2004 11/04/25 08:32 PM ET
Minority being the problem
HokiesACC2004 11/05/25 08:02 AM ET
Hard pass. And you'd also put this site out of business in short order.**

worthwhile things are competitive and hard...things that no one cares about
MrBayAreaHokie 11/04/25 12:55 PM ET
Not everything that's competitive and hard is worthwhile though

Big time athletics is here to stay, not matter what the "academics" would
Big12 guy 11/07/25 08:06 PM ET
It is here to stay. Universities have really painted themselves
Pylons 11/07/25 11:29 PM ET
I certainly do not think athletics is paramount to
Big12 guy 11/08/25 07:51 AM ET
That's certainly fair that it's different in rural, flyover America.
Pylons 11/08/25 08:21 AM ET
Well, would you prefer that VT football be more like Ferrum, playing in D2?
