It's clear as day that UNC is definitely going to leave-

one way or the other, and sooner or later. "Preyer responded: “I firmly believe that ‘protecting UNC financially’ requires us to explore every available avenue to depart a conference that is in financial decline and is primarily serving its bottom tier schools. While Carolina once led the ACC, that time is long gone. The current Commissioner is not serving our best interests and simply ‘asking’ for transparency will not get us anywhere but would be a welcome change.” Preyer added, regarding a potential nine-figure fee required to leave the ACC, that he had, “no desire to disagree with our own team — particularly in public — but no one should not be making statements that quantify the exit cost at $600-700M. That perception only hurts us.” That's from a statement to the NYT given by John Preyer, the chairman of the UNC board of trustees. It was provided in response to the linked article, which was published yesterday. EDIT: It wasn't a statement by Preyer to the NYT, it was stated by Preyer in emails obtained by the NYT via FOIA. I misunderstood, and my mistake, but the larger point remains. I don't care what the "Random Asian Guy" poster says in the articles for ACC blogs that he's trying to build a resume with, the ACC is dead man walking. It is going to be a G5 conference no later than 2036, and not a very good one at that. VT needs to get gone ASAP, to the Big 12 or elsewhere, or we're all going to be discussing permanent relegation to the trash bin of college football. ** Edited by Baltimore_Hokie at 2/12/2025, 3:44:02 PM

UNC and NC State will go together, period. This has been reported here in

Almost spot on. The P2 has already won this war
VTCALS72 02/12/25 05:34 PM ET
I’m worried that we overestimate the importance of VA NC DC
HokieAl 02/12/25 05:15 PM ET
The P2 doesn't need everyone they currently have.

The question is when 2031 (6 yrs) or 2036 (11 yrs), a lot will happen in 6
Stech 02/16/25 06:49 AM ET
Could be but if we are in the trash bin, the B12 will be right there too.**
VTCALS72 02/12/25 05:01 PM ET
No. The "trash bin" will be-

You're making some pretty big leaps...

Wow, I didn't realize WF, BC, and Duke weren't already ACC members.
Baltimore_Hokie 02/13/25 10:17 AM ET
Can't understand that is what you want.
VTCALS72 02/12/25 07:04 PM ET
I don't hate the ACC. I just recognize that the ACC is broken, and that-

And that is one of the main reasons your conference is having

Not exactly true.

WVU makes sense for the ACC because of rivalries.

No doubt. Louisville always made more sense to me, but as you know,

The issue is that no big12 school will increase the value of the ACC...

Oh please! You're starting to sound like Boston sports fans.

Sunsetunderground 02/12/25 12:22 PM ET
I don't think there is any scenario where the B1G would take NC State
tarheelblue 02/12/25 02:15 PM ET
My guess is the state politicians will make a deal
HokieAl 02/12/25 09:22 PM ET
I imagine NC pols will be protective of the ACC
