Serious question as 2why this now, are they worried about teams opting out?

Without this, there is very little upside, but a lot of downside for losing. I will say it again, Notre Dame is an incredible negotiator, it looked like they were taking it under the chin having to play in round 1, instead they guaranteed their bye before the game since they don’t have a Conference Championship game, and likely a home game for the first game. Now the teams that make the Conference Championship game and lose, are going, what!?!?! I want that too, let’s just stay home and rest.
