Sankey Never Shut the Door on Future SEC Expansion

FSU has TV Ratings in the Top Ten all across college football That puts FSU only behind Georgia & Alabama with SEC schools. Clemson has TV Ratings that put them well within the upper half of the SEC. A number crunching analysis at ESPN would surely see FSU & Clemson TV Ratings only vastly improving with an SEC schedule. That is surely the single Fact that gets both FSU & Clemson in the SEC. The Gamecocks & Gators will have as much say as the Aggies on the Longhorns. Sankey said just what you would expect. He never ruled out future SEC expansion. Sankey said he could not recruit ACC schools and wanted contiguous states. The SEC has only in the past ever taken contiguous states. The Longhorn/Aggies & Razorback/Longhorn games are the restored rivalries that Sankey refers to Oklahoma is back with Missouri too. I think Sankey just vaguely reaffirmed that FSU, Clemson, North Carolna & Virginia schools would all fit perfectly in the SEC.

This conference would still be a heck of a conference...
jesuisvtguy 07/15/24 04:04 PM ET
Such a conference would need to be small to get per school payouts
obguthr 07/16/24 09:53 AM ET
Not a bad idea but think your bottom feeder teams section is off
HouClone 07/15/24 05:13 PM ET
I meant those teams are better than bottom feeders of other conferences...
jesuisvtguy 07/15/24 05:22 PM ET
I have said it over and over

The football "wars" are over - except for ND. No ones brings any
133193Hokie 07/15/24 03:19 PM ET
So there would be no expansion in your scenario
cvillehokie92 07/15/24 04:14 PM ET
No. There will probably be P2 expansion but

Still not following the UVA & UNC logic

If the SEC thinks they have all the good football they need then

you think a basketball program is going to add

Not what I think, just trying to read what the SEC may be thinking with

We are Virginia's university. We have anywhere from 3X-6X the number...

Understand UNC completely, but not UVA
VPI_1998 07/15/24 02:53 PM ET
Agree. I don't like it, but reality is that UNC is a very valuable brand
HokieNoVA 07/15/24 06:41 PM ET
out of VT, UVA, NCST and UNC, I would think UVA is the least likely

Does he want to let the B1X take the premier school in Virginia?
EDGEMAN 07/15/24 01:33 PM ET
I’ve just got the feeling that it’s FSU/Clem to B1G and all 4 NC/VA to SEC
hokieZ71 07/15/24 02:13 PM ET
I believe the SEC has decided to eliminate the divisions and switch to
VTHokie2000 07/15/24 03:36 PM ET
Sure, they’re at 16. When a conference is at 20 they can’t easily do that.

Unless every team is willing to play 11 regular season games, then your

At 9 conference games I’d assume they’d drop a non conference opponent

I'm not following your math. 9 conference games + 3 OOC games still equals

That is a possibility. One crucial detail that would probably need to be
