New hip +23: Walking unassisted inside. Outside using cane bc of uneven
ground, inability to walk any measurable distance just yet. Fatigue more than pain. Back to driving, too! Got the handicap parking pass so already dreaming of the perfect tailgate spot outside of Lane! May turn it in before then, as my strength returns. IT band is an issue, causing knee pain. (not so) Funny thing is, it only hurts at night when I'm laying down. Walking around, exercising, PT, sitting at the table or at my desk, no problem. Any rate, I only wish I had done it sooner (as everyone says)

It will all come together pretty quickly, I was back doing Karate
full speed around 3 months, and passed my black belt test within a year. Hiking on uneven ground was annoying for a while. It has been near 3 years post surgery and my new hip is better than my remaining natural one except the muscles around it seem to tire out faster...

My wife was on a cane in two weeks, shoveling horse poop in 4 weeks
She is a beast with all her medical problems. Working on back, shoulder, and neck pain right now. Good luck on your recovery. It is suppose to be the most painful recovery.

Amputation would have probably been less painful

There was a fair amount of amputation involved. They amputated the parts of
the thigh bone, hip and hip joint that were hurting and replaced them with metal. Another downside: I keep telling people I'm just like "Steve Austin". People are so freaking young that they ask "the wrestler? How come?" ** Edited by RhinoVT at 7/30/2026, 10:07:14 AM

^^^ Better than he was before. Better... stronger... faster. ^^^
Loved that show. Doesn't seem like it was 50 years ago. Time flies. ** Edited by Brown Water at 7/30/2026, 10:13:46 AM
