I can tell you, based on personal and painful experience, you don't want to eff with the lightning. It's not fun.

88 (mph), a bolt of lightning....1.21 GIGAWATTS!
TBF, it looks decent where he is. Probably was just hearing distant booms, before that one happened, and caused him to scurry off. It's not like he had time to react before that picture was taken.
And I know damn sure that if that was me, I'd have that photo hanging on the wall at home. And at the office.

Maybe we should all be driving Delorean's here in FL with flux capacitors installed and cables attached to our clock towers. Just get that old guy from the Great Outdoors to stand on the side walk next to the street and clock tower and harnass the strike to a Delorean.

-in-law's brother told me a story about a time he was on a pier in the OBX with his graphite fishing rod. A storm was blowing up, and he turned to look at the kid next to him, and the kid's hair was standing straight up on his head. He figured it was time to get out of there. I still laugh.

clap of thunder I've ever heard. And that was the end of that.

Ref at the BCA game said he felt the hairs on the back of his neck rise...
as he was holding up his arm to signal the kickoff. This was right as the lighting turned Corso's car into a smoking hole in the ground.
