I thought Apple products "just worked"
My old android phone got very glitchy and was due for replacement. The rest of my family all has iPhones, loves them, and tends to keep one for 5+ years (I've never gotten more than 2 out of an android), so I figured I'd give it a try.
Found a good price on a 16e and made the switch a week ago. So far, I've liked it. If nothing else Apple CarPlay is WAY less glitchy than Android Auto.
But then today, I was trying to upload all my old mp3 files to the new phone. I connected it to my pc to do the file transfer, and the Apple Devices app said I needed to update the ios. OK. The file transfer crashed and completely bricked my phone. I literally can't even turn it off and back on now. Phone is totally crashed, won't turn on, won't turn off, won't update, won't restore, won't reset...nothing. I've got a static apple logo on a black screen and that's it.
Google failed to find a fix, so I called Apple tech support. The only thing they've come up with is sometimes an iPhone and a PC don't talk well to each other and I need to plug it into a Mac (and despite being on the Lounge for 25+ years, I've not bought a Mac and have no intention of doing so today). All they could do was get me an appointment with the apple service desk at Best Buy for this afternoon and hope they can do something.
I'll hold final judgment until after I see if they can fix it. But so far, I'm unimpressed.

...into that app, then sync it to your iPhone? That's how I handled my music on my iPhone, and I never had a problem. Actually the Apple app I used is no longer supported, so the current one is "Apple Music."
I bought a Mac after Microsoft's tech support "bricked my PC." I've been pretty happy switching to a Mac (Mini). I've had a Mac Air laptop for 6-7 years, and the one recurring )overheating) issue was resolved in later models when Apple switched from Intel chips to their own M-series chips. They don't overheat like the Intel chips.
In the ~20 years of iPhone ownership, I had one software update issue that I was able to resolve via the internet. Every other update has gone absolutely flawlessly. I'll never go back to Windows. Microsoft is dead to me.

My observation is it was every bit as glitchy and finnicky and needed weird updates, reboots, and tiny configuration updates to do every little thing exactly like a Windows PC does. The only difference is when I had trouble with a Windows PC, I knew no less than six people who worked in IT and could solve any possible problem who could help me. With the Mac, all they knew to tell me was to try google or online forums. That was my first, last, and only experience with a Mac computer. It also helps that every work computer I've ever had has been a Windows machine, so I already have the knowledge base of how to use those. If I had a Mac at home, I'd have to switch back and forth between the two ecosystems literally every day. No thank you.
But I really had higher hopes the iphone wouldn't be this twitchy. I can honestly say android phones over the years have developed their glitches and irritating quirks for me, but I've never fully bricked a phone until now.

No glitches. No updates that have issues loading. Zero issues. I compare that to my Microsoft PCs, where once out of 10 updates seemed to have some type of update issue.
Microsoft Windows sucks! That's why so many people are abandoning it for Linux or Apple Macs.

Better has nothing to do with their popularity. Fancy ads initially, and brand loyalty since.
If better mattered, Window's Phones would have been a thing for longer than 18 months.

...if for no other reason than the pain of trying to connect an Apple device to a PC. Also, I've never had an issue with the longevity of Android phones. (I'm typing this message from my GalaxyS10 work phone)

and there has never been such a thing as a cheap Apple phone.
But I got this one for $300, which isn't that much more than a cheap android right now.
BTW, I only use prepaid cell service and buy an unlocked phone outright, so I don't get any of the "deals" where they roll the cost of the phone into a 2 or 3 year contract so you never notice how expensive it is.

phone connected to it via Bluetooth and while I'm working on my laptop, I get phone notifications on my desktop without having to pick up my phone.
