What class of sweeteners did the FDA ban in 1970 after a link was detected with them and bladder cancer in lab rats?

Cyclamates were banned in the USA in 1970, and diet sodas tasted awful (my opinion) until aspartame was introduced in 1983. Many countries continued to use cyclamates after the USA’s ban. The ban did not produce a measurable improvement in bladder cancer, and scientists later concluded that the cancer link in rats could be traced to rodent-specific biology.

To me that tastes a lot more like regular Coke than Diet Coke. I think Pepsi has a similar product.

At least in the states. The UK and Indian formulas do contains some sucralose.
