Simon Bolivar Buckner was a killed general. Not sure of his rank.

LT Gen Simon Boliver Buckner, Jr., who was once a VMI student, was killed on Okinawa by Japanese artillery fire while visiting a forward outpost. He was the son of Confederate General Simon B. Buckner, Sr.

Just watched the episode on the battle of Okinawa on Amazon Prime...
...of the Great Courses series: World War II: The Pacific Theater. They mentioned the loss of LT Gen Buckner in that episode. He was the highest ranked general killed in combat during WW II. It has multiple 30 minute videos.

He was the highest rank killed in the Pacific theater. Leslie McNair had
the same rank but and was killed in Europe.
