@saret Quick question: Did the Hokie Club change the way they
calculate consecutive years of giving to coincide with the Hokie Scholarship Fund? We've been giving since before 2003, but today we get a Thank You note for 10 Years of consecutive giving. I don't have season tickets, so its not really a big deal, just wondering.

I can't answer your question specifically, but the HC's calculation of
has been tweaked from time to time over the years. But, without more definitive info re: your giving over the years. Have you only been designating your giving to the HSF for ten years? Was there a year you did not donate (resulting in a break in consecutive giving)? Have you ever pledged money? It can also mean that the HC records are just bad. One way to find out, without contacting the HC, is to contact University Advancement. Any money given to the HC would be a subset of all the money you've donated to VT over the years. Or, you can just contact the HC directly, and ask them. Also, it would not be unusual for the info from Advancement and the HC to differ (I just Advancement's records over the HC< personally. I would gently urge you to find out from either Advancement and/or the HC what your records are. While it may not be important now, it could down the road. It never hurts to get your info.

Thanks Saret, much appreciated! Oddly enough, I spoke to Advancement this
morning (on another matter), but it before today's mail arrived. Advancement is going to call me back, so I will ask about it then per your guidance. I can try calling Terry Bolt too (if she hasn't retired). We have been giving every year because my wife wants the charitable deduction (and since she works at the IRS, she is exceptionally diligent (paranoid, lol) about compliance). Anyways, main reason I asked is because I thought the HSF was a relatively recent "thing", and didn't remember it being an initiative when we first joined. In any event, let's just say I won't be seeing you at the Benefactors gala anytime soon :-) Have a good evening and thank you again!

First, both the HC and Advancement can provide the info. I would get both.
Why both? Because the Advancement printout would provide you (and your wife) a list of all gifts going back years. Terry Bolt is still there. She is/was my HC rep. The HSF was created when seat premiums were initiated. The HSF was established to provide the AthDept a reliable funding source to fund athletic scholarships. As far as the Benefactor's Gala goes, I'm a piker. I barely meet the threshold compared to most of those in attendance. And, that threshold is for cumulative giving, not large donations. I was a govt employee. That doesn't qualify me to be able to give large gifts. They're large gifts for me. And, anything you give should be acknowledged.

Yes- but I'm also familiar w/your posts and your family has given something
back which is far more valuable than money: yourselves. And that puts you in a league with Bill Gates! Also- thanks for your suggestion & update on Terry's status- good to know she's still around. ** Edited by PWR2LZ at 5/11/2026, 5:54:25 PM ** Edited by PWR2LZ at 5/11/2026, 5:59:29 PM

I'll pass those kind words on to my wife. She's Aunt Adele.
I'm Uncle Jim by marriage.
