Haven't seen much about ice skating on the Duck Pond. Is that still a thing
I remember the fire department watering the pond to even out the surface. Too long ago?

in the 70's...both last and this year it froze easily thick enough for skating...I never saw a single person venture out.
Sad to hear the Duck Pond is also skater-less.

sophomore year after I found out about it. I used to tool around out there. I'm pretty sure I did it at night, too, with the help of some lights that someone strung up? Spraying down the surface would have been nice - lots of sticks, if I recall.

I went by there just about every day, and quite a few people were out there walking on it, but I never saw anyone with skates. (VT had "Stay off the Ice" signs posted next to the pond for what it's worth).

that you never, NEVER go out on the ice. You just can't trust that it gets cold enough for long enough for walking out on the ice to be guaranteed safe.
