Ford took assembly line production and applied it to aircraft. Sources say that Willow Run built almost 9000 bombers during WWII. That was almost triple the number that were shot down, and WR was not the only factory producing B-24’s. WR became a major automotive production facility for Kaiser-Frazer and later General Motors after the war.
