Saw my first red spotted lantern fly in the edge of the woods
Tried twice to stomp it but it got away. Lovely. Yet another invasive species. Kudzu Autumn Olive Emerald Ash Borer Bittersweet Stilt Grass Stink bugs Might be time for napalm.

Yeah..and that is proof that stomping them won't make them go away!

We saw quite possibly the first June beetle we've ever seen in the grass
Pretty large - as big as my thumb (this one wasn't it). Sucker was too fast and evasive to photograph. We've always had Japanese beetles on roses but never a June beetle.

We've had June bugs in Virginia since I was a kid. We used to catch them,->
tie a piece of thread around a leg, and let them go. They'd fly on the string until they broke away.....
