In my opinion it's all about the Quinic Acid level...
you want just north of 4800mg per liter but if you over-boil to get there you're going to leech your tanins -> bitterness, Yuck! so if you pull a mild vacuum and keep the temp no higher than 92C... well you be the judge

I use an older version of this:
And yes, I grind my coffee beans every morning. I think it's fresher, but you really don't get the freshest beans unless you either visit a coffee roaster or roast your own. But if you take cream, sugar, or an artificial flavoring in your coffee, don't bother with freshly roasted coffee because they mask the flavor. But if you drink your coffee black, then definitely go with fresh roasted beans.

I think it's better. Just started doing it
Kicking myself for years of drinking that stuff out of plastic pods.

If you have the time & patience, grind is better. However,....
the freshness of the beans affects the flavor more than anything else. Recently picked & roasted beans are best. But in the US you usually have no way of knowing when your beans were harvested & roasted. I have a friend who owns a small coffee farm in Honduras & I get a 10 lb bag of Copan coffee from him occasionally that is no more than a few weeks old. It's always better than anything I can buy in the US. Coffee is like any other crop, it tastes best when freshly harvested.

Once beans are dried, they can last a long time
The #1 thing that impacts coffee freshness is roasting date. I think beans are at their freshest up to 10-14 days after roasting, then the flavor starts dropping off...

Yes. If you leave ground coffee out, it loses its flavor

You lost me at flavored stuff

My brother swears by it. He's a bit of a coffee snob.

Better is subjective
Grinding at home will produce fresher tasting coffee. "Better" is whatever you prefer it to be

where do you get fresh pure wholesome beans?

I don't neccessarily
My local grocery store has a good selection of whole bean coffee from DMV-region roasters. To me, that's the sweet spot in the Convenience/Expense/Taste Venn-diagram.
