It's fine. Just know the parts of town before you move there.

There are very nice parts. There are student areas to avoid. And there are lower income areas that tend to have a little more crime. But it's nothing like, say, the bad areas of Roanoke. I went to Radford and lived off campus. Granted it was quite a few years ago, but I partied hard so there are definitely some areas near campus that get wild on the weekend. I also got my car broken into when I lived in an apartment there. But I also knew/know tons of people in Radford now that have great houses in wonderful neighborhoods. The houses out on The River Course are very nice. Built by the same builders that built my house now. Now I live in Christiansburg and am quite biased toward here. I'd take Cburg over Blacksburg any day due to cost. Our builders built our house for just over $350,000 (pre-insane house prices) and build pretty much the same house in Bburg for over $500,000.
