A Moscow sex worker has been sentenced to 13 days in jail for photographs of a role-play hat styled after a Third Reich officer’s cap, the Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti reported. The photos were found in the escort-services website profile of Elvira Kh., 39, whose last name was not given. An officer from the Interior Ministry’s Center for Combating Extremism discovered the images, which showed the hat bearing a Nazi eagle, and filed an administrative report against her for displaying Nazi symbols. What the officer was doing browsing escort-services profiles was not specified. Ostorozhno Novosti reported only that he came across the profile “while checking the network.” In court, Elvira Kh. argued that she had used the hat “for personal purposes,” but the court rejected her argument. Publicly displaying Nazi symbols in Russia is punishable by a fine, administrative arrest of up to 15 days, or a forced labor sentence of up to 100 hours. A repeat offense carries criminal liability. Prostitution itself is also an administrative offense in Russia, punishable by a fine of up to 2,000 rubles. No administrative charges against Elvira Kh. under that provision have been reported.
